At D.H.P. we are proud to be a member of the Chatterton Lacework Group of Companies. An Australian owned Group of Companies founded in 1946 manufacturing a range of wrought iron products and builders hardware.
In the early days they also manufactured bore castings for the drilling business that was part of the operation. This business was primarily drilling for water in southern NSW and parts of Northern Victoria. It did however put down water bores at local tennis and bowling clubs in Melbourne. They were the Maribyrnong Park Tennis Club and Buckley Park Tennis Club. It traded under the name of Chatterton Brothers under the guidance of its founder, the late Lyle Chatterton. They also did test bores, testing the foundation prior to building and bridge construction. An example of this was the work they did on the testing for rock prior to building the King St. Bridge in Melbourne and drilling for core samples at the Yalloum Coalfields.
Chatterton Brothers initially began trading in Napier Cresent in Essendon before relocating to a large factory at 493 Keilor Rd, Niddrie around 1950. Prior to relocating to 583 Keilor Rd Niddrie some 25 years later where it traded prior to relocating to Tullamarine in 2000.
Other companies in the group include Kookaburra Letterboxes, manufacturing a range of powder coated letterboxes, and Victorian Steel Design manufacturing and distributing a range of wrought iron components for fences, gates and steel furniture.
